There are no shortcuts you can take. You get it from the random box.

Not really, it's all about timing. When you enter the 'hell or help' room the mystery box will have glowing golden question marks and when they flash gold incredibly fast or solid, thats the time where you earn the best weapons

Yup, as the previous posters said, it's simply random. Also, if you have Map Pack 2, there's an awesome new gun called the Wunderwaffe DG-2 in the Shi No Numa (Zombie Swamp) map. Not only is the gun cool, but the map is great.
