I was wondering if anyone knew if you can get where in co-op on legendary in one person dies you have to start over turned off. It's really a hassle to get past the first level with it on.

They made the game that way.
Legendary is difficult, so my guess is that Bungie threw that in either to taunt us or just gave players a harder challange by making a level to go to the last checkpoint.
