In World War Z setting up defenses that are able to withstand the onslaught of the zombies is crucial. This is particularly important in the levels where you need to hold a position as the zombies flood in. Listed below are the various traps and turrets you can set-up to help you along with tips on how to use them effectively.
If used strategically barbed wire can be very useful for defending against hordes of zombies. It is particularly effective when dealing with low to moderate Swarm zombies as they will get trapped on it and die. There is currently an exploit in the game you can take advantage of that allows you to stand in the barbed wire and not be reached by zombies.
These are static player-controlled machine guns that will deal a lot of damage, they are particularly effective for crowd control. They do however have the disadvantage of only rotating to a certain degree which means they have blind-spots which can leave you vulnerable to attacks. This though can be overcome by having teammates defend you when you are using them.
Mortars are static devices that allow you to deliver a targeted AoE explosive. They are particularly useful for maintaining control of choke points where Swarm zombies must pass.
Claymores are small explosives that you can place on the ground which will detonate once a zombie gets close enough to activate it. This device is particularly effective when used to cover exits or areas where zombies will try and flank you.
Automated turrets are able to detect and kill zombies on their own, they are especially helpful when positioned strategically so they provide extra backup. It is important though that you remember to restock their ammo.
The shock from electrical traps will temporarily render zombies useless. Placed strategically they will give you more time to deal with zombies that are approaching. They are paticulary effective when used at entry points.
