Full Review for Ultimate Spider-Man by TJLM

Introduction

Ultimate spiderman has so much more to offer than spiderman 2. The most obvious change is the fact that the game is a comic book. The characters, graphics and pretty much everything looks like the comic. Even better is the fact that all the buildings are the same as in spiderman 2 but they all look like they do in the comics. Another feature is the ability to play as venom. He can jump huge distances, throw cars and eat people to refuel his energy. He can also climb walls like spiderman. Lets not forget spiderman though. The swing style has again been improved. Swinging is much easier, once you get used to it, and more fun. You now just hold down R2 to hold onto a webline. You then jump from it etc. You can also climb up it whilst swinging to get over high buildings. The combat system lets you defeat multiple enemies. You can now jump off walls and attack enemies and again it is quite simple to get used to.

Graphics

The graphics are amazing. It is exactly like the comic. When you hit an enemy "Arrrrrrrrr" comes up on the screen etc. Also you see mini videos in between important events. These are all in a small box like in the comics. The characters themselves look real and the city is huge. There are even football pitches around the place!!!

Sound

Whenever you shoot a webline there is a swoosh noise. You would think this was annoying but it actually adds to the game. There is also music in the background which keeps you interested. When fighting enemies lots of sound is used which makes beating up the thugs more fun.

Gameplay

The game flows really nicely. As spiderman you can swing around, crawl walls, webzip you name it. It is great fun. As venom you get to jump unbelievably high. You can jump ontop of buildings from the ground!!! As venom you need to eat people as your health decreases, but only slowly. Although venom can't swing he can webzip which makes it easier to get around. There are also dozens of evil supervillains to fight against. Wolverine, electro, rhino, the green goblin etc. You have to fight venom on quite a few occasions as well.

Lastability

This game does have a long life span. Once you have done everything, including collecting all of the tokens and unlocking everything, you get the freedom to just swing, or jump as venom, around new york and queens. You can change between spiderman and venom in the menu as well once you have completed the story. Before hand the computer changed character at relavant points in the game. There are also lots of costumes to be unlocked.

Overall

Overall this is a must have game for spiderman fans. This is definately the ultimate spiderman game. It does take a while to get used to the swinging but before long you will be swinging around the streets in style. If you are not sure about this game then rent it out. However I just bought it because I was confident that it would be great. And I was right.
