NPCs

NPCs or Non Player Characters are the characters who live in the little town you build for them. Almost all of them have spawn requirements. Below are some notable NPCs and their corresponding spawn requirement (It is already given that every single one of them require valid housing. A message will pop up if an NPC wants to settle down). Note also that the Guide will always spawn no matter what and just requires valid housing.

Merchant - The General goods NPC where you can buy some stuff but most importantly, sell some junk for money. He sells valuable items. Most notably, the Piggy Bank which will greatly aid in your inventory management even underground! A single Piggy Bank is a placeable and gives you a storage chest you can bring around. It has a unique inventory space and does not disappear when retrieved. Most use two Piggy Banks. One on the surface and one they bring around so they can essentially transfer items into and just access the stash on the surface. Some of the other NPCs also require him to be present. So he really is important. He requires you to have 50 or more silver coins in your inventory.

Nurse - An NPC that you can ask to heal you to full HP. The only requirement she has is for the Merchant to be present and for you to have more than 100 HP (20HP = 1 Heart). You will most likely find a Lifecrystal while you explore underground. Lifecrystals are Heart statues that when broken or mined with a pickaxe give a lifecrystal item that increases your HP by 20. (Do not go over 200HP yet even if you find a lot of lifecrystals underground. Just put them in storage).

Goblin Tinkerer - The Goblin Tinkerer is most likely the NPC what will drain your pockets dry should you avail of his services. He sells some useful items most notably, the Rocket Boots that let you fly for a limited amount of time, and the Tinkers Workshop that enables you to combine certain accessories together. But his bread and butter is his ability to reforge items. Reforging items basically re-rolls stats on an item. He can re-roll an iron sword to have great stats! however, he can also make them crap. So use this feature with caution and only if you have lots of money to spare. His requirements are completing the Goblin invasion event that happens randomly if you have more than 200HP and a player must have destroyed one Shadow Orb / Crimson Heart (can be triggered after the requirements are met if one has obtained the Goblin Battle Standard item.

Arms Dealer - The Arms Dealer is a necessity for players who prefer to use guns. He sells ammunition for various guns provided you have already obtained them. He also sells weapons. One particular weapon that is of interest is the Minishark. A Gatling Gun in the shape of a shark that deals incredible amounts of damage at a short time. His requirement is that the player has bullets or a gun in your inventory.
