Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was a great Star Wars game. I played through quite a few times--dark side guy, light side guy, dark side gal, etc... Sometimes I'd max out DEX, sometimes WIS, sometimes STR. Whatever I did, I only didn't beat the boss at the end once--when I maxed out Dexterity and didn't have very good Strength, Wisdom, or Charisma.
NOTICE: I write this review assuming you've already played through the game.
Sometimes, the game would get slow (most likely a result of my constant playing, but that's beside the point). Sometimes, when I went to get a mine, the game would kinda-freeze, so I kept walking when I stopped and so I ran right over the mine, and lost a chunk of life. But otherwise, great graphics--I love the lightsabers and how believable the people talking look.
Same as with the graphics, the sound would sometimes keep going when it shouldn't have. Especially when T3-M4 was in your team, it would sound like he kept moving, especially when you opened up the Pause screen. That gets annoying after a while--I don't especially care for the sound.
What a storyline! Never before in the history of videogames have 'you' been the big bad guy! Revan and Malak--You pwn Malak at the end, be you Dark or Light. You build a lightsaber, use uber-l33t Force powers, chuck grenades--only game I've ever played that's better is the second KOTOR.
I've played through this game more times than I'd care to count. Each time is different--sometimes I easily best every enemy, sometimes I have to use ten Medpacs when I fight a kath hound. It's a surprise each time...and mad fun. I'd advise doing that, playing through again and again...Dark Side guy is the best, I think, if you talk to Bastila a lot (about how she feels about you ;) )
This game pwns all games save it's sequel, and all future sequels. Nuff said. Except I need 250 characters to get this accepted...
If you've played this game's sequel(s), I wouldn't say you have to play this game, but it's nice to understand the story of the next game(s).
