Introduction

The rough edges of the previous Pokemon Games have been finally trimmed off with marvelous accuracy. Why, you ask? This new installment in the Pokemon Series is a stand-out from the other games. There aren't any more pesky gym leaders, trainers, you don't have to worry about running into annoying masses of Pokemon in the wild, no breeding and etc. The classic Gotta Catch Em All motto has technically changed into Gotta Recruit Em All, among more additional changes.

Graphics

The gameplay of this Pokemon title is very different compared to the others. For one, you are the Pokemon, and you assembled a rescue team. Therefore, you take on rescue missions. Some are mandatory, and many are side-missions (although they get boring.) The maps are randomly created and they can get confusing and in the way. The battle portion of the gameplay is fairly ordinary, it's turn based. Move one square on the grid, opponent does the same. I think the AI in the game can be alot better, although you can select tactics to somewhat control the way they move. It's fun at the beginning, because it's different, and it seems innovative, but then again it's just a lot of repetition.

Sound

You will never hear the Poke'Mon talk in this game but at least you will also never hear them make those weird noises that are supposed to be their battle cries either. The sounds for the various moves are good, nothing too spectacular but about as good as you might expect out of a game like this. However the Music in this game is quite good. It is not the same almost lame music you have come to expect of most Poke'Mon games. Instead the music seems to bring the story line, dungeons, and friend spaces to life in a beautiful way. The background music in this game has to be some of the best that has ever graced a Poke'Mon game thus far and will likely make traveling through your favorite dungeons a bit easier to bear.

Gameplay

The game-play wasn't half bad in this game. It was completely different, as well. Before you enter a dungeon, you are at your team base. From there, you can either get your friends to go with you into a dungeon, or you can head to Pokemon Square, where more Pokemon are there to help you. There is the Kecleon Shop, where two Kecleon brothers are there to sell you anything you need. Below then is the Kangaskhan Storage, where a big, but sweet Pokemon will store any items that you don't need at the moment. Beyond them is the Persian Bank, where a feline will keep your money safe from harm. Next to him is the Wigglytuff Friend Shop, where a big pink thing sells you Friend Areas to recruit more Pokemon. Below them is the Gulpin Link Shop, where you can link items or re-learn forgotten moves. There are several other interesting places beyond the Pokemon Square, such as the Makuhita Do-jo and the Pelipper Post office. When ready, you can then select the missions you want to take, and enter a dungeon to complete the task. Go through the floors, complete the mission, and you will be rewarded, and returned to your base. The game-play is fun and basic, but I was hoping for a little something else, because the game-play is a bit too repetitive. It's still good, nonetheless.

Lastability

There are ALOT to do after the main game finished. It can even be fun to replay with other Pokemons as there are many starter Pokemons. Although, many would continue after the maingame finished as the story was it's strong factor, and it feels boring after.

Overall

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team was a big risk, and an even bigger success. This game is still one of my favorite games to play in my spare time, and this probably will not change. Have fun playing this game, because with a touching story, this game has a magnificent ending, which you all will most likely enjoy.

Final Score: 82%
