What controls do I use to make the spike work in order to climb.
In level 17, I am unable to climb to the top of the stone column from the last handhold so as to cross the water to meet up with his wife by using the fallen tree

This is SUCH bad game design. I like you could not fond the answer anywhere. After 30 mins of frustration from so called game walkthrough expertise, here it is... Jump up using x and press square and x together to dig in! What a joke! Hope that helps you. No one helped me.
