How do you Cook Grenades?

The frag grenade can be used to devestating effect if you know how to take the pin out early and catch enemies off-guard. Learning how to do this with a grenade along with having the element of surprise can be the difference between winning and losing an encounter.

The first thing you need to do before equipping the grenade in your inventory is to get yourself into position, ideally without the enemy seeing you. Now select the grenade so that it is in your hand and press the left mouse button if you are using PC or the RT if you using Xbox One so you are ready to throw it. To release the pin and cook the grenade you press the R key on the keyboard if you are using a PC or the LB if you are using the Xbox One. At this point you will hear a clicking audio cue that indicates you have approximately 5 seconds to get it to your target before it explodes. To avoid the grenade detonating too early the best time to throw it towards your target is about 3 seconds in so you give it travelling and landing time.

Other factors to take into consideration when using grenades is that you can run but not sprint when throwing them and that running or jumping while throwing a grenade will affect their trajectory as they take character velocity into account. As long as you do not have the grenade cooked you can holster it and switch to another weapon and if you go into an unarmed state the grenade will be put away. If instead of throwing the grenade you want to gently roll it along the floor to your target you press the right mouse button if you are using a PC and the LT on the Xbox One.
