Can you shoot a shooting star and will it drop.if you can can you sell it for how much?????

The Answer is no
You can't shoot it. But if you see it. Press A (you can't have any items in your hands). You will bow and make a wish when you press A.
The next day you will get a letter from the Star and he/she gives you a present.
PS. If you see a shooting star and you miss it. Dont worry, it come alot that night.

Drdrei30003 pretty much hit the nail on the head. You cannot shoot it down but if you have no items in your hands (Watering Can, Net, Shovel etc.) press the 'A' button quickly and you will make a wish. The next day you will get a letter from 'Wishy the Star' with a nice Present attached.
And as drdrei30003 also said, the star passes several times in one night, so if you miss it, it will come around again in an hour or so maybe.

You can't shoot it but you can wish on it by pressing A with nothing in your hands.
