Question for Animal Crossing: Wild World

Everytime I plant a money tree. It never works. I cut down a fruit tree. Then plant 10,000 bells, wait 3 days and it just grows a normal tree ;( help me!

The money tree must be planted in the shining gold light. It will look like a normal tree but will not be. Also don't plant near water or on exposed land. It's been a while since I've played so I don't remember if the gold light is still there
