Here is how to get around the frustrating 0% effect:

Use Foresight or Odor Sleuth then attack.

Ex. The opponent's Pokemon is Gengar, a Dark and Ghost type. You have a Persian, a Normal type. Your opponent attacks with Lick. If you use Foresight or Odor Sleuth, on the next turn, you can attack and it will hit.

If the problem is the frustrating ability Wonderguard:

It can be hit with a super effective move or after Foresight or Odor Sleuth.

Ex. The opponent has a Drifblim with Wonderguard, a Ghost and Flying type. It can be hit by Electric type moves, Ice type moves, Rock type moves, Ghost type moves, and Dark type moves, or after you use Foresight or Odor Sleuth.
