How to Transfer your Save File from 3DS to Switch

If you played the original Monster Hunter Generations on the 3DS and have a saved file you can transfer it to the Nintendo Switch by doing the following 7 steps.

1) Download the Monster Hunter: Gen U Save Data Transfer App on the Nintendo 3DS store which is free.

2) Boot up Monster Hunter Generations on your 3DS and also Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate on your Nintendo Swtich. Open the Save Data Transfer App on your 3DS and find the 'Transfer' option on the main menu of Monster Hunter: Generations Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch.

3) Link your 3DS to your Nintendo Switch using the Save Data Transfer App on the 3DS. To do this you need to connect both the 3DS and Nintendo Switch onto a single wifi network. Selecting 'Link Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch' on the Monster Hunter: Gen U Save Data Transfer App will do this. Now when you select 'Show Transfer Password' a password will appear.

4) Now on the Nintendo Switch select the 'Transfer' option on the main menu and choose 'Link Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch' and wait a few seconds for the Nintendo Switch to connect to the server. If however you are informed that you are already connected to the server you will need to select 'Remove Link' and try again.

5) Once you have both systems connected to the server and linked select the 'Enter Transfer Password' option that appears on the Monster Hunter: Generations Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch and input the 10-digit password you received on your Nintendo 3DS from the Monster Hunter: Gen U Save Data Transfer App.

6) Then on the 'Main Menu' of the Monster Hunter: Gen U Save Data Transfer App. on the Nintendo 3DS select 'Save Data Transfer' followed by 'Send MH Gen Save Data' and 'Yes' after checking what is going to be transfered is correct.

7) Now go to Monster Hunter: Generations on the Nintendo Switch and under 'Transfer' on the 'Main Menu' select 'Receive Save Data' followed by 'Yes' and 'Yes' again. You will now recieve the save data and be returned to the 'Main Menu'.

When you successfully complete this process your weapons, armour, and your Hunter Rank will be saved and your progress will be preserved. The game time however will not carry over and the timer will starts at 00:00 in Monster Hunter: Generations Ultimate. To begin with the HR will appear wrong but this will correct itself.
