Mario Kart Tour Essential Techniques Guide

In Mario Kart Tour there are several racing techniques which if you can master will give you a boost in-game. Check out our Essential Teqniques Guide to find out what these are and how to perform them.

Rocket Start

Performing a Rocket Start at the start of a race will reward your vehicle with a sudden burst of speed which if timed and used correctly will enable you to gain the lead during the first few seconds of the race. A Rocket Start can be performed by doing the following before the race begins:

1) Wait

Wait for '2' during the countdown at the start of the race.

2) Hold

Tap the screen and hold.

3) 'Go'

Release at 'GO'. The nearer to 'Go' when you release the longer and farther the Rocket Start.

If you start revving your vehicle too early you run the risk of your kart stalling, immombilising it for a few seconds.

Slipstreaming

To perform this technique you need to get yourself behind another players vehicle and maintain your position there for 2-3 seconds. Upon doing so your vehicle will receive a speed boost similar to the Mini-Turbo which you can then use to ram the player your are streamlining behind and race ahead into a higher place. Slipstreaming an opponents vehicle can be dangerous as it leaves you open to their attacks, make sure before attempting a slipstream you check to see if they have any items they can throw at you. The best time to attempt a slipstream is during a straight course, trying to perform a stlipstream during a corner, particularly a tight one is not easy to pull off, you will have more success overtaking opponents there using drifts.

Drifting

Drifting is a technique that enables you turn a tight corner without losing speed by hugging the curve. If you wanted to perform a drift while turning left you would have to swipe left and hold . If your vehicle is curving too much and it looks like you are going to crash into a wall you need adjust your angle by swiping left and right while holding. When you hold your swipe in the direction you are turning, blue sparks will appear (see screenshot above). By releasing your finger off the screen, you can accelerate by using Mini-Turbo. The controls to drift around a right turn are simply reversed. The best time to begin drifting is to start when you see the corner in front of you, it's too late to start drifting when you enter the corner.

Jump Boost

A Jump Boost is triggered when you drive through ramps or any sloped objects to perform a jump whereupon landing you get a momentary burst of speed. Aim to do jumps whenever possible so you can take advantage of the speed boost that they provide.
