Slow Down in Speed Golf
In Speed Golf the quickest player to complete a hole wins the round. You will be surprised to discover that the best strategy you can employ in this mode is to take your time and perfectly line up the trajectory of your shots. The reason why this is the best strategy is that each stroke you take adds 30 seconds to your time and if your shots are not precise the 3 or 4 seconds you save by hitting your ball as fast as possible will be wasted if you need to take an extra shot because you've landed in the rough or in a bunker.
Choose your Own Clubs
Although the AI in Mario Golf: Super Rush does a decent job overall of automatically selecting the right club for your given situation, there will be times when your intuition will tell you there is a better option. The AI is not flawless, so don't be afraid to make your own selection if you feel this is the case. Once you have played Mario Golf: Super Rush for several hours and have become familiar with the game, you will become more confident selecting your own club.
Know when to Use Topspin and Backspin
To have any chance of consistently coming in under Par on any given hole, it is crucial that you understand when you should use topspin and backspin. If you hit a golf ball with topspin, you will give it more momentum upon landing, effectively making it roll further. Hitting a golf ball with backspin will do the opposite, even making the ball roll back upon landing. It is recommended that you experiment with these two shot modifiers in practice mode, so you understand how they will impact your shots and also give yourself the opportunity to become familiar with them.
To give the golf ball topspin, you double-tap the A button on your controller during the power adjusting phase when you swing your club. To put backspin on your golf ball, you instead press B on your controller. If you double-tap B you will get extra backspin, this particular shot is useful when you want to prevent your ball from overshooting the hole or if you are chipping onto a sloped green.
Shoot to the Sides in Battle Golf
Most of the time at the start of a Battle Golf match you will find all the competitors aiming for the central hole in the arena. Resist the temptation to also do this and instead make your first targets the holes to the left or right of the center. By aiming at the holes that are being neglected by the other players, you will be able to sink a couple of putts undisturbed while your opponents fight amongst themselves over the hole in the middle of the arena. Although this mode is called Battle Golf, the best strategy is to avoid engaging in fights with the competition.

Putting is Crucial
It's great being able to hit the golf ball the length of the fairway, but the key to getting under par usually depends on your ability to sink the ball into the hole. This means you need to be proficient at putting. You have options for a short, medium, or long putt, and it's important that you use the correct putt for the situation at hand. Not only do you have to select the correct type of putt, you also need to take into consideration the weather when lining up your putt. If it is raining you need to compensate for the rain slowing your ball down or if it is windy the wind blowing your ball off course. The elevation of the shot must also be considered, the general rule being more power required for uphill puts and less for downhill ones.
Practice on the Rookie Course First
It is recommended that you start by playing a one-off match on the Rookie Course in order to get familiar with the controls of the game before you contemplate playing an online match or a full 18 holes of Speed Golf. Once you feel you have got to grips with the controls, you should consider tackling the Golf Adventure single-player mode and complete all the optional tutorials while completing the campaign. Doing this will give you the opportunity to practice the fundamentals and also be introduced to more advanced skills.
