When you help a neighbor by filling a crate or reviving a tree for them, they receive an envelope attached to your avatar's icon. They can click on this to send you a thank you letter, which, if you open it, can contain a gift card.
You have to wait 24 hours for the postman to come with your thank you letters. So to send someone a gift certificate, you have to keep an eye out for the thank you letters that appear by their icon after they have helped you.

So you press the mailbox. Then it's says who's selling what product. There might be a ❗️ By it. Go to their user and find the tree that's going dead and press it. You will get some xp and most likely a gift certificate.

Go to their farm and the way you do that is you go to the newspaper and it will have an ! On it you will click on it then you will go look around there farm and if it has an ! On it you will click it and it will help them then you can go back to your farm and they might send you a thank you letter that might contain gift cards thanks
