Chapter 09: Co-Op Farming Jobs

The introduction of Co-Op Farming to Farmville was the first of several planned additions to the game that were intended to enhance the ability of gamers to play together in the game, an element that was previously lacking but was thought to be necessary for a game whose primary vehicle is a social networking site. After the crafting buildings were added to the game, the Co-Op Farming system was given an expansion to include Crafting Co-Op jobs that worked in conjunction with the crafting buildings, giving farmers a means to obtain groups of bushels that could be used for crafting.

Co-Op Farming was created around a simple formula -- one farmer would serve as the leader, picking the job and setting it up, and the other farmers would serve as partners, assisting in the completion of the job. Each of these positions had different Achievement paths associated with it (see the chapter on Ribbons), but each would receive the same reward for completing the job.

To participate in Cooperative Farming a player must have reached Level 21, and should have at least the third farm upgrade, as otherwise they will not have sufficient crop space to be able to contribute to a Co-Op job in a meaningful way.

Cooperative jobs are completed against a timer -- each job has three target levels on the timer, Gold, Silver, and Bronze -- and while each level has a reward associated with it in terms of XP, only the top level -- the Gold Medal -- will result in the participants receiving the special item associated with each of the jobs.

There are two categories of Co-Op Job -- the Basic Job and the Crafting Job.

In addition to the basic jobs above, which are always available, there are special jobs that are added for specific events such as Farmville's Birthday Celebration Event, the Haiti Relief efforts, and a other charity efforts. The special jobs are available only for a limited time, and the rewards for those are often considered a badge of honor among crafters and farmers alike.

Crafting Co-Op Farming jobs all have the same reward for Gold Level completion - a set of three bushels for the crafting job you select as your reward, from the jobs available for the specific crafting building that the job is associated with.

A farmer can only start the jobs for the special crafts building that they own, but they can join and participate in any job started by a friend/neighbor even though they do not own the building associated with that job. The reward that they receive will be for one of the sets they can use.
