Make sure you Rank Up and level up the favorite characters in your roster whenever possible as doing so will give them access to new special abilities and strengthen your team. It will also unlock new Commands for Leaders which when used at the right time can turn the tide of battle. You will be able to level up by earning EXP. You earn EXP by building and upgrading buildings in your base.

If you are stuck or unsure what to do in G.I. Joe: War on Cobra it is recommended that you just focus on completing the Tips and Achievements as doing so will not only teach you how to do most of the core activities and actions in the game but also earn you rewards which will help you considerably in game progression.

Regardless of whether they belong to the G.I. Joe or Cobra factions it is essential that you balance your team to make it more effective. This means it should consist of characters that are able to deal a lot of damage, such as Steel Battalion or Baroness with those that fill a tank role, such as B.A.T.'s. Or Roadblock. By having these two type of characters in your team you will be able to win many scenarios by keeping the damage dealers behind the tanks.

The premium currency in G.I. Joe: War on Cobra is diamonds, and it is crucial that you use them wisely. Resist the temptation to spend diamonds on Hero Bundles or Cargo Shipments, it is far better to spend them on unlocking Cargo Shipments quicker. The reason why this is more beneficial is that every 24 hours you are able to receive 6 Cargo Shipments from 3-star battle victories. It is very difficult to maximize unlocking these and earning new ones in a 24-hour time period so in order to make sure you are getting your full 6 use your diamonds to open a Cargo Shipment instantly.

In G.I. Joe: War on Cobra you can play with both factions at the same time, and it is recommended that you do so as it enables you to double up on Event quests. Progress towards event quests get taken from both factions, giving you more Silver Event Coins to unlock Buyout Boxes.
