Talk to prof. Birch then go to the north (up) and you'll see either a Zigzagoon or a Poochyena then pick from Treeko, Torchic, or Mudkip.

You get your Pok�mon, beat the Poochyena, and go back to the lab, now go up from Oldale Town and beat your Rival.
