You need to look in areas where you find regular pokemon toget a shiny.

You might find a shiny every once in a while, but they won't just pop up any minute.

Just try looking for a Marill to make a start.

I am the master of shinies!! I know quite a bit about them, and I'll be glad to answer your question...

Shinies appear anywhere in the wild due to a 1 in 8156 chance of finding one. Don't feel alone; I have played my Ruby version for over 100 hours and I still have had yet to find a shiny. People on this site have said that the only way to see the sparkles around a shiny when you enter battle is to throw a PokeBall at it and the stars that spread from the PokeBall (when you send Pokemon in battle, hence the different pattern of stars that spread from the Pokemon as you use different balls to catch them with) will look like that of a Master Ball. The Master Ball, I will have you know, has indigo stars that spread in a ring around the Pokemon; there is a verticle ring and a horizontal ring that sort of forms a plus sign.

But I don't know if that is true, though. I wonder if you can really see the stars in battle or not when a shiny is encountered. I suppose you should be able to see a difference in the color of the Pokemon, since shinies are of a different color. Another thing, I doubt you can escape battle with a wild shiny, so you can relax a little.
