You can find the deepsea tooth if you search around while diving, they are all over the place on the floor I think
You can either get it from the scientist guy at the slateport harbor,by getting an item from the scientist from the abandoned ship,and give it to the scientist at slateport
Go to the abandoned ship go to the diving place where it takes you to the room where you need to get the doors open with keys when you get that done go to the scientist guy on the top floor and talk to him then go to slateport ship dock give it to the scientist guy and he will let you choose deep sea tooth or scale.Hope this helps!
1st go to the abandoned ship and get the scanner in room 2 then take it to captain stern and he will offer you either a deepseatooth or deepseascale for the scanner. If you do go to the ship though you will have to find the room keys to open each room.
