Catch a zubat, or use an e-reader and you can get other Pokemon there.

You don't really do anything in altering cave but it is said that if you have a gold trainer card awesome stuff appears in there

As far as I know, when you've mixed records with someone you can find wold Pokemon in altering cave such as zubat and others.
