To have defeated the Pok�mon League and upgraded your Pok�dex on Emerald, and given the Ruby and Sapphire to Celio on Fire Red and Leaf Green.

1. You need a game that has beaten the elite 4.
2. On you're fr/lg you have to have beaten the elite four and gotten the ruby and sapphire stones.

In FireRed and LeafGreen, you have to get the key items: Ruby Gem and Sapphire Gem so you can trade with Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. Without them, you can only trade with another FireRed or LeafGreen.
To get the Ruby Gem and Sapphire Gem, you must have the national dex. (This is for FireRed and LeafGreen) Celio in One Island will ask you to get these gems.
Ruby Gem
Go to Mt. Ember. Go right and you'll see 2 team rocket members. *They just said the first password of the Rocket Warehouse - It's in Five Island, the warehouse requires two passwords to open* After battling them, you'll see a cave. Walk in. You can find some Slugma's in here. Keep going and you'll find the Ruby Gem. Give it to Celio. You still can't trade with Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald yet. It requires BOTH gems.
Sapphire Gem
In Six Island, go surf down and go to a land on the left to find a silver building - It's around there somewhere.
The silver building has a locked door. To open the door, you'll need a Pokemon to use strength or rock smash. (I forgot which one but I know it's one of them)
Go into the ladder.
You'll see 4 holes. Fall in the top one, then the left one, then the right one, and then the bottom one. (I think this is the right order. If not, try a different order) You'll see the Sapphire Gem. But, don't be happy yet because a rocket scientist falls from the ceiling and snatches the Sapphire Gem.
Now he gives you the second password of the Rocket Warehouse. Go to the Rocket Warehouse to unlock the door since you have 2 passwords. Now this is a little tricky. Find your way through by battling Rockets. Then you'll find the scientist that stole your gem.
Defeat him and he gives you the gem. Now leave the island and go back to One Island and give Celio the Sapphire gem. Now you can trade with Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald!

You need to aquire the sapphire and ruby on your FR/LG first, then you can trade with a friend via link cable.
