I'm not sure what you are talking about.
To my knowledge, there is no way possible to change the controls of the Gameboy Color or Gameboy Advance.
The D-pad on the left (the cross) will always move your character, the A button will always work as your selection button, and the B button will always serve as your back button.

On the Gameboy Advance, the left and right "triggers" will always toggle the screen size mode between Wide and Full screens when playing Gameboy Color games.
