If your having trouble getting bulbasaur then heres the easy way :

When you first start the game you will have a potion in your computer. Get it out but DONT USE IT. Then go up to the grass and Prof Oak will come after you and so on and so forth. When you get pushed out of the way by gary in the Lab head down and youll be challenged by gary. Doesnt matter if you win or lose. Then you can use your potion. Even though he/she doesnt need it, use the potion on pikachu 5 time and he wont be so grumpy any more. Then try not to get him fainted up until cerulean. Then when you go into the house with the bulbasaur you should get it straight away!!!
