Complete the Tutorial

Keep in mind when you begin playing Chinatown Detective Agency that the first three cases that you play are just the tutorial missions which have been designed to set up the rest of the game. During these tutorial cases the game will provide you with plenty of hints to help you get the hang of how things work. The tutorial ends with a cutscene involving your character's former boss, the superintendent of Singapore's Interpol branch, and m you will then be presented with three previous cases from which to choose from. You can only work full time for one of these clients, the choices are Rupert Zhou who is connected to powerful people, Tiger Lily, a representative for a man trying to return stolen artifacts, or Keeran Iyer who is trying to uncover a government conspiracy.

Frequently Save your Progress Manually

When you complete the tutorial in Chinatown Detective Agency you will unlock the ability to manually save the game, until then the only way to save it is when the game autosaves after a case has been completed. It is recommended that you manually save frequently as there are a lot of pitfalls that can drastically alter the outcome of your game. When you save after the completing the tutorial you will be able to skip over it in subsequent playthroughs.

Keep Track of Time

Keep track of time, especially on the missions where you are given a task and only have a certain number of minutes to complete it. In these instances a timer will appear somewhere on the screen indicating how much time you have left. It is essential that you meet clients and contacts at the specified time as failing to turn up for an appointment can change the results of your case or even have dire consequences, like ending the game prematurely. Use the Wait feature to make sure you know when and where your appointments are.

Get Hints from Mei Ting

During your first mission in Chinatown Detective Agency you will meet a librarian named Mei Ting who agrees to break a few rules in order to help Amira on the condition she gets paid for it each time she does so. Mei Ting is a helpful resource as the hints she provides will point you in the right direction of a difficult puzzle or give you the solution outright.

Pay the Bills

In Chinatown Detective Agency it is important that you put aside enough money for your bills as failing to pay them for two months straight will result in the game being over. Once a month you will receive an email with your rent and utilities, and you need to make sure you have enough money to pay them, this means spending your money wisely on things like travel expenses during the month.

You will need to Google

On the left of the screen of the user interface is a phone which has a notification system, a mission log, and a series of icons along the bottom of the screen. One of these icons is labeled 'Web' and tapping it minimizes the game and opens your actual browser of choice and not an artificial, internal browser. You will need to use your internet browser for some of the puzzles which require a Google search or a trip to Wikipedia to solve.
