Top 10 Video Game Firsts

06. First Video Game Sex

Right then, should this even be on this list? Well considering how bad the first video game sex actually was, and considering that the typical reaction to first seeing the first video game sex was generally the wonder that it had taken so long for some pervert to do it, why then yes, yes it should.

Younger gamers will find it very fascinating and disturbing to learn that the first video game to not only feature sex but also to be focused around sex as a major element of game play also happened to enjoy a number of other firsts...

It was the first overtly racist video game for a mainstream games console (it was released on the Atari 2600 and the primary focus of play was what appears to be the rape of Native American women).

It was the first game to include full-nudity -- though the block-like nature of the Atari 2600's graphics really made it rather hard to tell that what you were seeing was nudity so much as a semi-human shaped big-booty Native American princess who looked nude being mounted by a semi-human shaped General George Custer with a rather prideful woody and a cavalry hat but, well, you get the idea...

The game was called 'Custer's Revenge' and was released in 1982 outside the normal video game cartridge distribution chain for the Atari platform.

Considering that Custer's Revenge was basically a game whose underlying structure consisted of a naked and aroused cavalry general dodging arrows in order to reach and mount a Native American girl who has been conveniently tied up, the game also gets the dubious distinction of being the first rape video game (sadly the first of many).

Published by Mystique Software, Custer's Revenge was clearly labeled that it was not to be sold to minors, but then with a massively huge price tag of $49.95 (that was in 1983 dollars - in today's money the game would cost around $120 so it was not likely that minors were lining up to purchase it, but still) despite making a large amount of money for Mystique the game did not prevent them from going out of business (or getting a lot of angry letters from women, Native Americans, and descendents of the 7th Cavalry).
