Top 10 Video Game Firsts

07. First Animated Cut Scene

Considering that animated CS's are pretty much a standard feature in practically every modern video game genre, and particularly are well-used for bridging loading screens and zone-changes, you might find it fascinating to learn that the very first game to include them was actually one of the most famous of the arcade classics: Donkey Kong!

When the stand-up arcade version of DK was first released in 1981 -- a game that not only presented gamers with the first CS, but also served as a place for them to get rid of a LOT of coins. Just saying.

Purists will likely call shenanigans on this, and point out that Pac-Man came out in 1980 and it also featured CS's but no, that does not count because the CS's in Pac-Man were not actually CS's in the sense that they did not actually reflect a bridging scene in the story of the game being played, but were in fact small film-like intermission shorts.

The CS in Donkey Kong came at the end of the game, and was a direct extension of the story it told, hence its being designated as CS Numero Uno!
