Your Campsite is basically your turf. Here, you have a small open field where you get to arrange some Furniture and Amenities. This is also the main hang-out spot for all the animals that you have invited to go visit your camp. They'll be using all the facilities that are currently arranged in your camp -- might it be for resting, playing, and what not.

Occasionally, animals staying in your camp would do special request that would generate items similar to that when you do their "requests" outside your camp. The only difference is that you can't deliberately ask them for these requests unlike when they are outside (your camp). On the plus side, you'll receive random gifts from them more often.

More than anything else, the function of your campsite is more like a blank canvas for you to decorate with -- using the wide collection of Furniture and Amenities to be crafted or purchased. Of course, the sole reason of doing this "decorating" activity is that - depending on the items that you have acquired in the game, you'll be able to invite the different animals that particularly requests them.

On a latter update of the game, Gardening is introduced and is accessible thru your campsite. All you have to do really is go far left (near your camper van) and check Lloid or Isabelle there. They would introduce you to the new "Gardening" system of the game and let you participate in its basic mechanics like planting the stuff, using a special fertilizer to boost its growth, harvesting, and cross pollenating their seeds to earn new variants of seeds to plant. Each successfully harvested plants/flowers in return can be traded to Lloid, for some Bells and/or Craft items.

When you've been away from your camp for a while, you'll be notified about certain animals staying there that wishes to speak with you. This will hint you which ones would probably give you a gift or the ones that require a special request. Take note too that all animals present in your camp will benefit from a +5 friendship experience points every time you unveil a newly crafted amenity (this is on top of the benefits of the animals with affinity to the crafted amenity).

While it might seem harder to increase your friendship level with animals while they are staying in your camp (because being able to do their "requests" is quite limited), it is rather important to invite them once they reach the initial friendship Cap Level 7, and build an amenity that has an affinity to their nature (natural, cool, cute, sporty), to unlock the level cap.

Each time you successfully manage to complete a set of required Furniture and friendship level with an animal, you will have the option to auto-arrange the furniture in your camp. This saves a lot of time and effort than doing it all on your own. You do not have to worry about messing up your preference though as you can easily revert these changes after successfully inviting an animal.

Your current arrangement in your camp will also be visible to other players or friends that tries visit your camp to give you kudos. While others don't pay much attention to this, it is a good way to show off your achievements by displaying items or Amenities that are typically hard to obtain. More importantly, you can customize or personalize it the way you want, to typically show other people your character.
