Question for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

this is for all you master theives out there

Ok guys my questions are:

1.Im on the second quest for the gray fox (arrow of ext....somin or another) I've found the mage room, ive found the mages secret passage and the door at the fort outside of the city, but I havent found the mage himself so I can't get the key is there a bug I should no about or another way to get the key/open door or am I just missing somthing.

2.I no hes not imortal as the gray fox gives you permission to kill if nessesary so if he has gone wondering can anyone shed some light on the most likey place of his death.

3.I've trained this guy up exactly the way I want him (battle/mage) as this is my second go through the game so please don't say I have to start again lol.

Much thanks to anyone who can help

Well first off don't even worry about the door because thats not ho you get in anyway. In the main entrance when your walking in go right until you find a path where water goes down and you can fit between the cracks. This is important, make sure your facing the North wall. Right after you squeeze in their should be a submerged path that leads in behind the door. Continue the quest from there. Don't worry you don't have to start over.
