Question for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

I went to Anvil and bought a house from Velwyn Benirus. The Benirus manor house and in the basement I found a sealed portal, how do I activate the portal?

Sleep in the bed and you will get a quest update

Sleep in the bed and you will find the house to be haunted.When you wake up you will be attacked by ALOT of ghosts.You will then get a side quest update.
