Well, you just gotta kill alot of stuff and do alot of quests. Running out in the woods and killing monsters is a great way to level up. Also, don't forget that you have to sleep often to level up.

Plus, leveling is not just killing monsters. When you chose your class, you had 7 major skills. By increasing those skills, you level up. On the status menu, if you look at your skills, the Major ones are on top. There's a progress bar next to them. There's also one along the bottom, which is the level up progress. Once it's filled, a message will say that you should rest somewhere because you've learned a lot (or something like that). Sleep at an Inn or a house of yours and you will level up.

Dr_Logic answered:

You level up by fighting monsters and leveling your major skills up. It is boring at first but once you get going you will like the game a lot more. The monsters level up with you, so it keeps the game interesting and fun. I've played the game for over fifty hours now and am only level twenty-three. So don't get discouraged, it's more about having fun with the story and tasks. However, in order to go up a level, you need to sleep in a Inn.
