Trolls of Forsaken Mine Help?

I was doing the Trolls of Forsaken Mine quest in the fighters guild, and I had done this quest before on another character so I knew what to do, I walked in, and traveled to the labyrynth. When I was inside, I was getting killed by the trolls. I ran into the room where velina dontons son's body is. And I took the bloody journal, I read it and ran back out, by the time I left I realized, my quest log said I still needed to investigate, so I went back inside later when I was stronger because I thought it might be easier, and their bodies were gone, including velina donton's son's. I stood in the place where his body was waiting for an update for about 5 minutes and didnt get anything. I was wondering if I'm screwed or not. And if not what should I do?

Did you take a secret passage out? There was a secret passage that was around where you found the Guild Master's son. You were supposed to take that. You can also try and go back to Oyern(I think that's how you spell the elf's names) and see if you can finish the quest.

Yeah make sure you got in the way you were supposed to. I think you were supposed to find the body of the guy that went with him if I'm not mistaken. Oblivion has been out so long and this must have happened to somebody else so if we can't answer it right I bet you can look it up and get your answer.

For other people with this question, I had the same problem. I restarted from the autosave at the beginning of the cave and went back to the body. This time instead of reading the book almost instantly, I waited a second to see if the journal would update. It did. I also took the correct route (When I did it before I went backwards through the secret path somehow.)

In summary:

1.) Wait a second after you pick up the journal. It seems like it takes a while for the journal marker to register.

2.) Make sure you go through the dungeon the correct way.
