Use a telikensis spell, you can get one at the anvile mage guild

You open the display case, drop the item, and move it into the case and then close it

Depending on which console you play there is a command for picking up things without putting them in your inventory for the PS3 it's L2 then simply drag the item in the display case, beware however in some display cases (on the ps3) their contents are re-spawned and therefore you will lose the items you have placed there.
