Don't get one it's a waste of gold. Join the Dark Brotherhood, the Fighter's Guild, or Mage's Guild and you can sleep there whenever.

Skingrad has a pretty sweet house called rosethorn hall. It has 3 floors and you can buy a lot of stuff for it including a slave.

deoraven answered:

Skingrad has the biggest house, the imperial city all you get is a shack on the waterfront. But the Cheydinhall's dark brotherhood sanctuary has 7 or 8 chests and is one you will go back to every week anyway. The "cheap" anvil house, once the un-wanted guests have been taken care of, the house becomes a bargain 2 floors and a basement, beautiful furnishings (for that era). But in the arch mage's quarters, in my game I can't store things there for more than a week then they disapear even items I leave on the floor. The rest ov the houses are pretty much the same wooden shacks. But how can it be a waste of money when you have "unlimited" gold??.

SUPERMAN5 answered:

Skingrad is by the best to have before expansions. The Shack at waterfront is cheap if you don't know how to dupe.
