Question for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

I am playing KOTOR for the first time and I'm stuck in Manaan.

I've entered the Sith base, killed everyone, yet I can't open the door into the training center. It says my skill level is too low to unlock that security door.

I have HK-47 and Carth with me.

How do I get in?

I've already answered this question over in KOTOR 2, but I'll be happy to do it again. You have to have talked to a Selkath: Shaelas, his name is (sorry I answered this part wrong on KOTOR 2), about the missing Selkath. He's in the Mercenary quarter. He'll ask you to find out about the missing Selkath youth, and you'll help him. In the Sith Base again, there should be a Selkath running from you to the training center. She'll open the door, and then you are forced to kill her. Now you're in the training center. Good job.

I can't leave the Sith base. I can't use the rapid transfer back to the Ebon Hawk and I can't find a way out of the base other than through the training center.
