You have to run and use evertything in the game to lose the police. You can not just out-run the police, because at level six every police vehicle on the force is out hunting you down.

The best way to get rid of them is to use the pursuit breakers, ram them into walls, and use every single side alley possible (even if they are not on your map).

At one point in the chase (i don't that you actually have to fully evade the police to get this) you will get a phone call from Mia telling you how to get away.

There is a new road that opens up (by the stadium I think), and all you have to do is take the new road and jump over a gap where a bridge used to be. Once you manage that you will have sucessfully evaded the police chase, and you will be able to go back into the game and save.
