Halo is the ring.

CheatMaster P answered:

When I bet it I wasn't sure what Halo was either. But my friend, which is a Halo maniac and has like all the books about Halo, told me this. Halo is the ring that is around that red planet that you see in the movie in the first mission.

The Covenant were going to use it to kill the flood (those green things that pop out of nowhere). But they didn't know that it would destroy the universe. So that is why you blow it up at the end of the game. He also told me that there are also like three other rings, too. So if he is right then there should be two other Halo games after Halo 2.

PS. November the 9th is the release of Halo 2.

MasterDanger3 answered:

Halo is the ring that that you fight on. It is a weapon that the Covenant discovered and were going to use to destroy Earth. But then the covenant and humans dig up the Flood and it messes up everything. Then Masterchief wanted to use Halo to kill the Flood.

Then Cortana told him that it would kill them too and that
Halo is used to wipe the galaxy clean of all life. Then they end up blowing it up.

fallenrebstar answered:

Come on now, your fighting on Halo the whole time, except when you go up into the covenant ship. Remember the part where you get tricked by the monitor, and Cortana freaks?

You were about to unleash the destructive power of Halo on the universe, because other Halos that are in the universe would be triggered too. You blow the Halo up because that is the only way to destroy the flood yet save all that exists in the universe.

Halo 2 ~ November 9th
Witness the spectacle!

joslifer1 answered:

Halo is the planet that blew up into the seven rings.

You learn there are seven rings either when What's -her-bucket stops you from activating it (courtesy of Monitor) or sometime in Halo 2 (I'm not sure when).

So Halo is a PLANET that blew up into SEVEN RINGS. There is only ONE Halo.

Got it? Good. Now, in Halo 1, you blow up the first ring.

Halo 2 is where you blow up the second ring.

There are obviously going to be 7 Halo games, to blow up all the rings of Halo!

shadow_117 answered:

The ring worlds Halo is a super weapon to destroy all living organisms that could be a host for the flood within 25 million light years and thats why the master chief didnt activate halo cause it would have killed all of mankind and would have left the flood live so he destroyed it. The covenant were never going to use it to destroy earth they knew the forerunners built it and they think the forerunners
are god like. If you want more info on the forerunners look at the bottom of the page.

And if youre wondering where I got my info I got it from the 3 books and paying attention to the games.

The Forerunners built these ring worlds to contain the flood. If the flood escaped the rings would have to be activated to keep the flood from spreading. After the Forerunners finished building the Halos they activated them and wiped their species out because of the flood. joslifer1 is an idiot cause he doesnt follow the story because the elites and grunts have teamed up with the humans and the master chief is on the same ship as the profit of truth to end the war so basically there will only be halo 3 if not it will only go to halo 4 then which is unlikely and halo was never a planet. ACCULALY I THINK ALL OF THE PEOPLE WHO ANWSERED THIS QUESTION IS STUPID.

And if youre wondering where I got my info I got it from the 3 books and paying attention to the games.

FORRUNNERS
The Forerunners are an ancient, long vanished civilization whose main legacy to the galaxy is a series of enormous ring shaped artificial worlds whose true purpose was revealed at the conclusion of the first Halo. The long-abandoned Forerunner technology has been reverse-engineered and co-opted with varying degrees of success by the Covenant, who revere the Forerunners almost as gods, and have built their entire civilization around that central premise. The Forerunners are a complete enigma, having left behind few clues to their identity or their fate.

gamer25 answered:

The Halos are weapons of mass destruction used to destroy a new, seemingly invincible species(until Master Chief came along that is). The forerunners built many of them, and used one, wiping out the whole universe, and yet somehow the flood, humans, and covanant managed to rebuild. The reason nobody except the moniter knows this, is because halo did manage to wipe out something, the forerunners. I hoped I helped.

sqwirt answered:

Ok, starting from the begining! Halo the the massive ring that you fight on for almost all the game. It, and the 6 other halos were built by the forerunners for two purposes.
Firstly, they were created to study the flood.
secondly, they were last resort weapons to be used against the flood in the event of a massive outbreak. When activated, the halo creates a pulse of some sort, which wipes out all life large enough to support the flood. The pulse is 25,000 lightyears across, and when one is activated, it triggers the other 6 to fire also, ensuring that no large life-forms survive, and so the flood should starve to death.
The halo's have been activated once before, by the forerunners after every other attempt to control the flood failed. This is what killed off the forerunners. The covenent in halo:CE belive that the rings are sacred weapons of the gods (forerunners) and plan to use them against humans. In halo 2, they belive that once the rings are activated, the 'sacred journey' will begin, and all those who are worthy will be taken to a better existance, and all their enemies and the disloyal will perish.
