I'm confused some too. Are flood mutations permenant or temporary?

ANSWERS

The Flood is a highly contageous form of parasite that takes over a host body. The little poppy things are called Infection forms and they burrow into the chest cavity of their victim. They then change the insides of the body into goo. Short answer: No, it's permanent.

Yes, they are permanent. They are quite sad. The smaller ones that run at you, those are mutated marines, and the larger ones are Elites who were outmatched. You remember the movie alien? It's like that, only they take over the whole body, and they cavity in, not out.

Next time you're bored, shoot the arms off of your flood assalients. You then get to have "flood buddies" who will walk around harmless because they have no arms!

They are permanent because their victims are usually already dead, so the mutations are permanent.
