Persona 4 Golden Beginner Cheats and Tips

Persona 4 Golden is set in the quiet rural town of Inaba in Japan. You play the role of Yu Narukami, a teenager who has just moved there from Tokyo. It is not long after your arrival that a series of gruesome murders start and you find yourself banding together with your new classmates who you discover just so happen to have latent supernatural powers and by clambering through a TV screen at the mall you can access a hazy otherworld where you must defeat monstrous Shadows.

  • Read Books to Increase Stats

In Persona 4 Golden there are 'helper' books which you can read to get additional gains on specific stats. For example the book that gives you an extra point of Knowledge whenever you study.

It is not compulsory to read these books and will usually depend on how much you want to do the activity associated with them. If you are trophy hunting you will have to read them sooner or later. There are missable books which you can obtain from Quests or Social Links.

  • Check the Town Bulletin for Jobs

Taking on jobs is beneficial in Persona 4 Golden as they will provide cash (10k for the highest end ones), they all give you stats, with some even giving you Social Links all for one time period. Some of the characters in the game you will only be able to meet by checking the town bulletin for jobs and taking on one where you work with them.

Check out our Social Links Guide to find out how you can form releationships with the various characters in Persona 4 Golden.

  • Visit Master Daidara

Master Daidara is the owner of Daidara Metalworks located in the Central Shopping District. After winning battles you can take the materials you have obtained and sell them to Daidara for him to create new Weapons, Armour, or Accessories depending on which material was sold.

  • Avoid the Reaper

The Reaper is a Shadow in Persona 4 Golden that drops the best loot in the game when you defeat them (weapons, armour and accessories, in that order). The reaper appears in every 22nd chest you open and unless you are level 70+ you should avoid strong enemy as they are tough to defeat.

You will know whether a Reaper is in a chest as you will 'sense a terrifying presence inside' when trying a chest after hearing his telltale rattling chains. At this point you will be given the choice to walk away if he's inside.

  • Always Grow Vegetables

Gardening in Persona 4 Golden enables you to grow some of your own vegetables. The first thing you need are Seedlings. These can be bought from the lady near the front of Dojima Residence, a lady at the Junes Department Store, or from the TV Shopping Network.

Always have something growings and make sure you harvest the vegetables at the right time to reap your rewards. Failing to do so will spoil the vegetables and they will become withered.

Check out our Fishing Guide to find out how to get the fishing rod and how to fish.

  • Rainy Days

On days when it is raining in Persona 4 Golden you will find that a lot of the options will not be available. The best option that is available if you have the money and you've already completed that month's dungeon is to go to Aiya Diner and take on the Mega Beef Bowl Challenge.

This costs 3,000 yen to attempt but will raise your Knowledge Understanding, and Courage social skill. This is the only way you will be able to raise all three skills at once making it a great time-saver.

  • Secret Midnight Channel

When the clock of the device you are playing Persona 4 Golden is between 12:00 (Midnight) and 1:00, Go to the TV Listings section. Once there, find the blinking channel with the flashing lights, touch/select it and you will find a minigame with Teddie.

  • Unlock Secret Weapons

Nearly all the characters in Persona 4 Golden have a secret weapon that can only be obtained by returning to a dungeon after it has been completed once. Most of these will involve having to defeat an optional boss, one though can be found by searching the dungeon.

    • Algernon (Naoto)
    • Defeat the Extreme Vessel in the Secret Laboratory.

    • Bear Claw (Teddie)
    • Defeat the Momentary Child in the Marukyu Striptease.

    • Chakra Ring
    • Defeat the Lost Okina in Heaven.

    • Gaia Sword (Yu)
