Introduction

Set in the northern most region of a fantasy world known as Tamriel, Skyrim is teeming with life, both wild and domesticated. Currently in a state of civil war, in danger of countless Dragons and filled with beautiful grasslands and dangerous mountains, Skyrim is already set to be an amazing adventure.

Graphics

For a game of this sheer size and magnitude, the graphics are simply stunning. From the countless stars that fill the night sky to the foam of a tumbling waterfall, the world of Skyrim looks more beautiful than any other game world I've seen.
The only problem is that when you get right up close to something (not that you will be very often) there is a lack of detail and depth with allot of different objects. But I can't dock points for that, as this game is just so vast it's amazing how much detail they have already!
And throughout all my gaming life, I've never had quite the same feeling I do when I'm standing alone in a forsaken mountain pass, staring out towards the distant mountains, just black shadows in the middle of the night, and being so awed that my lips can't help but form the word "Wow".

Sound

Can you really judge a game by sound? Really? As long as it's not just static, isn't it fine? No matter. The sound in this game is just as good as it's graphics. The music is perfectly suited to whatever scenario you are in. Whether it be fighting a fearsome troll, battling a monstrous Dragon or just exploring; and it can change as quickly as your heartbeat does when you hear the wonderful roar of an incoming Dragon. Every creature, from the tiny Mudcrab to the fearsome undead, all have a very distinctive sound, truly making each fight action-packed in it's own way.
The NPCs' dialogue is also fluid and sounds natural. You'll hardly ever notice that two or more NPCs have the same voice actor, which really helps every character feel very unique.
Oh, and the Dragon Shouts sound awesome, which is good, as they are supposed to be awesome.

Gameplay

With three basic combat styles and countless ways to customise your character, the gameplay in Skyrim is vast and varied. Do you want to be a Mage, an Assassin or a Warrior? Do you want a Shield, or Sword that can lop limbs off? Want to dual wield or use a Bow? What spells do you want to use? Destruction or Alteration? The possibilities and combinations are endless.
But the actual combat falls a little flat. With weapons it kind of feels like you're just flailing a tube of cardboard about - you don't feel like any damage is being done, but at some point, the enemy just drops. There aren't any combos and it feels stiff - you can't jump from enemy to enemy easily, which can be annoying when fighting a large group of enemies. It doesn't really feel like you're doing anything - just mashing a button to make a red bar go down. Thankfully, you can change the combat difficulty at any time.
But as much as they got fighting large groups wrong, they got Dragon fights right. Dragon fights are exciting and action-packed - there's no time you're safe, whether they're flying through the air or roasting you alive whilst on the ground. And because they appear randomly at any time, Skyrim always has a sense of danger, tension and pure, adrenalin rushing excitement.

Lastability

Anybody would find it hard to fault this game's lastability. With over 150 dungeons and a staggering amount of side quests, you'll never find yourself with nothing to do.
Each of the four factions has an infinite amount of side quests that you can do after you've completed their respective stories. And with 16 Daedric Artefacts for you to find and collect all across Skyrim, you'll rarely find that there's nothing left for you to find!
Oh, and there are always Dragons. Just randomly flying about, looking to kill you. And when does fighting Dragons ever get old?

Overall

Overall, this game was beautifully made, from the wonderful scenery to the chattering NPCs. You can easily put 200+ hours into this game and still have plenty to do. Whilst the combat is a little off, it is easily made up in the beauty of this vast world that is all yours to explore. It's very easy once you get your head around it for gamers of any level of skill.
So for a gamer looking for a open and staggering gaming experience whilst not spending hours trying to fully understand the mechanics of the game, this is a wonderful game.

Final Score: 94%
