Yes, if you land and do not break the boots the game will allow you to keep them. You have to land on a ledge after you jump, so be on the lookout on the way down.

There is also another way, before you jump down the fire place you can drin a few foritify health potions and make sure you are fully healed and already have a high acrobatics skill, and just jump down while not wearing the boots.
