Yes, you can play as him on playstation 1 if you have a Game Shark. You need to look up a game shark code called USO. But I will warn you, the game will crash if you get to a story line because the game didn't have his model in the story lines. you can only play as him out in the field, as in leveling up fighting monsters.agroves answered:
There is a couple of easy ways to become Sephiroth but controlling him in a battle is much more harder and can ruin your game PERMANENTLY! To play as him you will need a gameshark or a xploder for the ps1. One way is to put in a code which unlocks the USO menu in the menu. When you are in it you can change your party members and even cloud. 9 is young cloud and 10 is sephiroth. Put sephiroth in slot 3 and put someone else in slot 2 but keep cloud in slot 1. To find USO scroll down to save and move down once. The finger should be on a blank space. That is the USO menu. Depending where you are in the game you may not be able to access it. Once you have got your party ready with sephroth in it go into a battle. Sephiroth will be controlled by the cpu but it's still cool to have him with you.
BONUSES: You can remove his materia and give him materia and he will still have his original materia. He will grow levels and he will not be invincible. I wouldn't recommend saving with him until you get the PHS and don't have him in your team at the flashback or any conversations and movies. It will probably freeze. Other than that he is safe to use. Just make sure you haven't met vincent yet and don't use it on disk 3.
