In the Varock mines right beside the mining guild doors is a couple places of gold. Also, once you get enouph crafting experience and you are able to go into the crafting guild, there is a ton of gold in there.

Its Faladore Mines that there is gold (the Dwarven Mines is what it is called) As Rangerman said the gold is outside the Mining Guild Door, Best way there is go to Faladore and head East past the party room you will see a house thats near the party room and stairs in it, head down them I think it's south west to the gold, watch out for the scorpions
Also you need Lvl 40 Crafting and a Brown Apron to get into the Crafting Guild

The crafting guild has some gold, clay, and silver. Also, there is gold in the dwarven mines.
