Nioh 2 is an action RPG where you must master the lethal arts of the samurai as a mysterious half-human, half-supernatural Yokai warrior called Toyotomi Hideyoshi who is known as 'Hide'. Nioh 2 is set in the turbulent Sengoku period of Japanese history in this alternate world plagued by supernatural monsters known as Yokai. Unsheathe your deadly weapons and cut down all enemies in your path and use your ability to transform into a full Yokai to unleash devastating paranormal powers. Check out our Nioh 2 cheats and tips to get help in the game.
Below is a collection of hints and tips that will help you to progress in the game. These include mastering the Burst Counter and luring enemies out of the Dark Realm. As well as these hints and tips we also have a mini-guide here which goes into more details on some of the tips we have below:
If you are not sure which stats are associated with each weapon you can use the 'Help' button on your controller to put you in Help mode which will provide tool tips for most entries on the inventory screens. You will also be able to see which skills get the 'Attack Bonus'.
Nioh 2 introduces two weapons that were not in the first game, Hatchets and the Switchglaive. The Hatchets are fast-attack, dual wield weapons that work well with nimble dodge and dash playstyles while the Switchglaive is a very versatile weapon that takes on a different form in each combat stance. Check out our Best Weapons Guide to get help choosing weapons for your character.
Exploration is an important part of Nioh 2 as the missions you undertake are full of hidden shortcuts and secret alleys that allow you to find useful items and sometimes skip fights. If you are struggling to get past an enemy look around for an alternate path which you can use to avoid the confrontation altoghether.
Try to avoid getting into fights where you have to deal with more than one enemy at a time. Try to control who you fight and where by separating your enemies from their allies and dispatching them one by one. If you employ this strategy and are patient you will be able clear entire areas without getting ganged up on.
A new mechanic that has been introduced in Nioh 2 is the Burst Counter and to master its use is absolutely pivotal to progressing through the game. Every enemy type in the game has a select few moves you can take advantage of so learning how to counter them is incredibly important. Check out our How to use a Burst Counter guide to find out everything you need to know about performing it.
Encountering an enemy in the Dark Realm does not necessarily mean you have to battle them in their element and be at a disadvantage because of reduced stamina regeneration. Try to lure them out of the Dark Realm by making them chase after you so it enables you to fight on your terms.
When the game suddenly gifts you with new weapons for no reason you need to make sure you equip them and look for opportunities to use them as more often than not they will be the key to conquering the next part of the mission. This happens a lot in Nioh 2.
The enemies in Nioh 2 will drop plenty of weapons and armour when you kill them which means your inventory will be full of things you will never use. Trying to find items on the fly when your menus are saturated with items is dangerous so look to offload what you don't need by using the 'Make Offering' option to pawn it to the purple Kodama at the Shrine. Check out our What are Kodamas guide to find out how interact with Kodamas to trade with them.
We hope these tips help you out in the game, but for further help, try our beginners guide, we also have some FAQs for Nioh 2, you can also submit your own questions there for other players to answer.
