'm afraid you'll HAVE to collect all 120 stars to get Yoshi. Or try to jump up to the castle from one side... maybe. A lot of people did that, I tried it, but I failed.

You need all 120.
There is no other way.

You'll have to get all 120 stars and get in the canon outside to blast up on to the castle.

I've heard rumors that it is possible to get up to the top of the castle without 120 stars using jumps and wall kicks and stuff, but it doesn't matter because Yoshi isn't up there until you get 120 stars, anyway. Doubt it? If you stand still outside near the castle after getting 120 stars, you can hear Yoshi walking around. If you don't have 120 stars, you can't.
