Backwards Long Jump, Sign Outside & Beyond The Mirror

Firstly I've got 3 Questions.

1. How do you do a backwards long jump? I have tried every button but it doesn't work. I know that you don't use the D Pad so I haven't use that for anything in the game.

2. Just outside is a sign that says Or walk and crouch to... Never mind! Where is the secret place.

3. How do you get beyond the mirror in the castle? Also is there a star beyond the mirror in the castle?

Please Help!

1. I believe that it is impossible to do a backwards long jump. You can do a backflip, but not a long jump. I may be wrong, but for all I know, it is impossible.

2. I don't remember a sign saying "Or walk and crouch to... Never mind!" but I have every star and I know reaching all the secret places does not require crouching.

3. In the mirror, you will need Luigi, when you have him and enter that room, there will be a flower that will make him invisible. While invisible, he can walk through the mirror and through the door on that side, retrieving a secret power star. You will also be able to obtain Wario by jumping into the picture that corresponds with his.

You got to hold the crouch while running forward then press a and move control stick backwards and there it's done

1. Well you hold Z while NOT moving. Then just jump while still crouching.

2. There is no real "secret place". The sign is telling you things you can do while crouching. Crouching and walking results in crawling which allows you to get down narrow paths with more balance.

3. You can only get behind the mirror in the DS version by getting the power flower in the room with Luigi. Then walk right through the mirror. Yes, there is a star behind it in the mirrored door. Hope this helps

1. Doing a backward long jump is imposible, but you can do a backward backflip. It is hard to do, but you need to jump while fasing the other way.
2.The sign is of no importance, you don't get anything from it and you don't get anything important from it. You can just ignore it.
3. I don't think it is possible to go through the mirror in the nintndo 64 version.

1. The one listed above (Well you hold Z while NOT moving.) is called a Backwards Somersault, and is not the same thing. It is possible to do a backwards Long Jump, but you won't go back very far. Simply perform a Long Jump as normal, but once you release the Z button, hold in the opposite direction. You won't go backwards very fall, but it's techincally still backwards.

2. See above, it just cuts off before the word "crawl."

3. See above, only in the DS version.

Ok the only answer I know is number one, but what I think you are referring to is a quick turn-around jump. Basically how it works is that you are running in one direction, then do a quick turn and jump back the opposite direction, doing like a half-flip in the air. To do it you have to run in one direction then quickly flip the joystick back the other way pressing "A" at the same time. Hopefully you can get it...

OK there IS such a thing as the Backwards Long Jump. What you do is get out into an open space somewhere, start running forward (analog stick up) so that Mario's back is to the screen, hold Z and then press A. Before you touch the ground pull the analog stick down and press A as you touch the ground. Keep timing it right as you hit the ground and press A, you will start going backwards. You can do it at different angles you just have to use the analog stick correctly.

Just because I'm looking up how to more easily do the BLJ; the backwards longjump actually reffers to a glitch where you use moving backwards during a longjump. The game's prgramming has no cap on how fast you can go while moving backwards, so you can reach any speed theoretically. The backwards long jump usually reffers to doing a longjump down some stairs, then going back the direction you came and mashing on the jump button, all the while, holding crouch and the direction opposite to which mario is facing. This allows mario to continually gain speed while moving backwards up a set of stairs or some other slope. This can also work under low ceilings and in a few other situations. Better information can be found elsewhere via googling "how to BLJ in super mario 64

1. You need to find a place where the camera guy( Lakitu ) points the camera at Mario's face( if you can't find a place then you should turn the camera using the camera buttons until Mario faces Lakitu. After this, do a long jump and then press the directional button opposite to the direction Mario is facing. DO NOT LET GO OF THE CROUCH BUTTON WHILE YOU ARE DOING THIS. Keep holding the directional button opposite to the direction Mario is facing aswell. Then you must keep on pressing the jump button as fast as possible. You should be able to do a super fast backward long jump. Try a few times and don't give up. You can only do this on stairs or hills, but it is easier to do on stairs. You can only do this with an Nintendo 64 emulator( I am not fully sure about this). One last thing. Use your right hand if you are right handed or if you are left handed use your left hand.It can make you go through walls, unopened doors and can break the spell of the endless stairs without the necessary amount of stars!
Note: You can not do this in the DS version because it is a glitch( something that is not supposed to happen in a video game) and Nintendo fixed it so that if try to do it in the DS version the camera will move behind Mario[ Curse you Nintendo!]
2.That sign is Nintendo's way of being funny. Its a bit like you gossiping about some one with your friend.
"You: That guy is such a...."
Then the guy you are talking about comes in.
"You: ....Never mind!"
The sign post realized that it was about to ask Mario to crawl like a baby and quickly said "Never mind"!
Of course, that is enough to make you find out by yourself how to crawl.
3.You can get beyond the mirror by a the backwards long jump or, if that is too hard for you, by a code( you can find the code on the internet, just type "Beyond the mirror- Super Mario 64"). There is no star in the Nintendo version.I won't tell you what is beyond the mirror; you will have to find out for yourself.
In the DS version, make Luigi collect a fire flower. This will make him invisible and he will be able to walk beyond the mirror. There is a secret star beyond the mirror.

All right, that is all I know. I have tried to make it as simple to understand as possible. I hope I helped!
NOTE: There is a very good video on Youtube on how to do a backwards long jump. Just write " How to do a backward long jump".

To perform a Backwards Long Jump (BLJ), you first need to meet one of the following conditions.

1.Flight of stairs
2.Very steep slope
3.Very low ceiling
4.Platform moving upwards.

1. To do a stair BLJ, you just need to long jump but then reverse your direction so that Mario is going backwards. Now, continuously long jump on the stairs while still going backwards. Press the A/Jump button very fast. If this is done correctly, Mario will keep jumping up the stairs and he will gain alot of speed. Manipulate his speed to pass through certian objects.

2. This works mostly like the stair BLJ. Find a steep slope and keep doing BLJ's. Make sure you're pressing fast enough to make it so Mario will continuously jump.

3. To do a low ceiling BLJ, it's not very different. Do a long jump and start going backwards. Now land under the ceiling and mash A as fast as you can.

4. This works the same as the slope BLJ. Do a BLJ and keep mashing A. Make sure you long jump BEFORE the elevator goes up.

Now, it IS possible to do another type of BLJ, but it's VERY DIFFICULT. Here's how to do it:

Find a flight of stairs and line yourself up on the lower step but make sure Mario's facing angle is very slightly to the lower step. Now wait until the camera has panned directly behind Mario. Now do a BLJ. Right when you're about to land start holding up and left and keep mashing a. If done correctly, Mario will keep jumping between those steps.
