Backwards Long Jump, Sign Outside & Beyond The Mirror

Firstly I've got 3 Questions.

1. How do you do a backwards long jump? I have tried every button but it doesn't work. I know that you don't use the D Pad so I haven't use that for anything in the game.

2. Just outside is a sign that says Or walk and crouch to... Never mind! Where is the secret place.

3. How do you get beyond the mirror in the castle? Also is there a star beyond the mirror in the castle?

Please Help!

ANSWERS

1. I believe that it is impossible to do a backwards long jump. You can do a backflip, but not a long jump. I may be wrong, but for all I know, it is impossible.

2. I don't remember a sign saying "Or walk and crouch to... Never mind!" but I have every star and I know reaching all the secret places does not require crouching.

3. In the mirror, you will need Luigi, when you have him and enter that room, there will be a flower that will make him invisible. While invisible, he can walk through the mirror and through the door on that side, retrieving a secret power star. You will also be able to obtain Wario by jumping into the picture that corresponds with his.

1. Well you hold Z while NOT moving. Then just jump while still crouching.

2. There is no real "secret place". The sign is telling you things you can do while crouching. Crouching and walking results in crawling which allows you to get down narrow paths with more balance.

3. You can only get behind the mirror in the DS version by getting the power flower in the room with Luigi. Then walk right through the mirror. Yes, there is a star behind it in the mirrored door. Hope this helps

1. Doing a backward long jump is imposible, but you can do a backward backflip. It is hard to do, but you need to jump while fasing the other way.
2.The sign is of no importance, you don't get anything from it and you don't get anything important from it. You can just ignore it.
3. I don't think it is possible to go through the mirror in the nintndo 64 version.

1. The one listed above (Well you hold Z while NOT moving.) is called a Backwards Somersault, and is not the same thing. It is possible to do a backwards Long Jump, but you won't go back very far. Simply perform a Long Jump as normal, but once you release the Z button, hold in the opposite direction. You won't go backwards very fall, but it's techincally still backwards.

2. See above, it just cuts off before the word "crawl."

3. See above, only in the DS version.

Ok the only answer I know is number one, but what I think you are referring to is a quick turn-around jump. Basically how it works is that you are running in one direction, then do a quick turn and jump back the opposite direction, doing like a half-flip in the air. To do it you have to run in one direction then quickly flip the joystick back the other way pressing "A" at the same time. Hopefully you can get it...

OK there IS such a thing as the Backwards Long Jump. What you do is get out into an open space somewhere, start running forward (analog stick up) so that Mario's back is to the screen, hold Z and then press A. Before you touch the ground pull the analog stick down and press A as you touch the ground. Keep timing it right as you hit the ground and press A, you will start going backwards. You can do it at different angles you just have to use the analog stick correctly.

Just because I'm looking up how to more easily do the BLJ; the backwards longjump actually reffers to a glitch where you use moving backwards during a longjump. The game's prgramming has no cap on how fast you can go while moving backwards, so you can reach any speed theoretically. The backwards long jump usually reffers to doing a longjump down some stairs, then going back the direction you came and mashing on the jump button, all the while, holding crouch and the direction opposite to which mario is facing. This allows mario to continually gain speed while moving backwards up a set of stairs or some other slope. This can also work under low ceilings and in a few other situations. Better information can be found elsewhere via googling "how to BLJ in super mario 64
