Also for those of you who do not know how to change the date.....go to settings ( the icon that appears to be the wheel gear) in your menu of apps and click set date and time, you will now see how you can manipulate the hours and days.

Just to add to the last comment..... This is a slightly better way to retain at least 30000 a pop.
1) gather enough gardens for all of your sims at one house.
2) make them garden your most expensive item at that house at the same time.
3)click out of the game
4) double click the same button to exit the game and your multitasking menu will appear at the bottom of the screen.
5) press and hold the sims free play game.
6) a red minus icon pops up on sims free play....click that to make it disappear
7) go to settings and change the date to July 1, 1985.
8) from your menu go back into sims free play.
9) your sims should still be gardening but it will say that you cannot connect to server. (this is ok)
10) repeat steps 3-6
11) go back into settings and change the date back to normal.
12) return to the game and you will have earned money plus all of your gardening is complete.
13) this will appear to freeze your sims...just click out of the game and back in again and they will regain their natural state.

This is a nice way to earn a ton of money fast and some quick xp. P.s. It also makes your sims fully happy.
if you do not follow these steps the way I listed it will not work.

Double press the home button, for iPhones/iPads it's that circle thing on the bottom, can't miss it. When you double press, there are apps on the bottom.. Tap the Sims 3 app & keep your finger there for like 2 secs, the apps should shake. Then, there should be a minus sign/dash (-)Tap that. Done.

The first time I did this it worked perfectly, my building finished, Sims came home from work, I had extra XP from businesses, etc. After the first time the only thing that gets done is the planting. Any way to fix this?

it worked..but when i collected the money in the year ahead all of my sims looked like they were doing the potty dance and you couldn't get them to do anything. then i changed it back to this year and now all of the gardens dont work
