Yes you have to have all golds it took me over a year to do them all but I played other games it's hard I hope you can do it

Well it only took me a few days to do it but yes you should a1m for gold medals also, if you can pull that as well as the same for jets mission, you w1ll recieve a chaos emerald and will be able to play as supersonic who runs on rings alone.
